Upon hearing that Christopher Columbus was the director for the first Percy Jackson movie, I was somewhat saddened. Harry Potter 1 and 2 were pretty lame, and a book series that is much better than the HP series (imho) deserves better. However the cast looks quite good so hopefully it won’t be a disaster. Aside from enjoying the novel series, and hoping the movies will do the justice, I will be quite interested to see how the conservative Christians respond to them. I am somewhat surprised to not see criticisms from that camp already, but this may be similar to Pullman’s Northern Lights series where it flew under the radar until the movies were close to cinema release and the novels received widespread attention. As Percy Jackson and the Olympians is my main literature case study for my PhD it will be interesting to see how it is transitions to screen. Hopefully it will do much better than Susan Cooper’s The Dark is Rising.
In other news, my WoW paper was finished on time and my Christian computer games paper is underway, though a bit slow as having a few issues with the way I should write the darn thing.
The cast DOES look good. Sean Bean as Zeus? Casting genius!
Yeah, Kevin McKidd as Poseidon will be pretty interesting. Wondering if they will dye his hair black for the classic look or not.
The Casting is Great! dark haired Annabeth not great…
Apparently she was a brunette originally, when Riordan was telling the stories to his son. So I’m not so fussed about it
